APPLE BARS 
1 tbsp. sugar
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
1 egg yolk plus enough milk to make 2/3 c.
2/3 c. crushed corn flakes
5 c. apples, sliced
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg white

Mix flour and salt, cut in shortening. Add milk and egg yolk and blend in with a fork. Roll half of this dough to fit a cookie sheet, bringing up the sides. Sprinkle corn flakes over dough, then apples, then sugar and cinnamon. Roll out other half of dough and put on top. Pinch edges.

Beat egg white until stiff and brush over crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes. Cut into bars. Super with whipped cream or ice cream.
