SNOWBALL SURPRISE COOKIES
3/4 c. butter (1 1/2 sticks)
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
Gumdrops, jelly beans, candy coated milk chocolate pieces, and/or maraschino
cherries

Turn oven to 350 degrees. In a large mixing bowl beat butter with electric mixer on medium speed 30 seconds or until softened. Add sugar and salt and beat until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Beat well.

With mixer on low speed gradually beat in flour until well mixed. Shape the dough into 1 inch balls. Press a piece of desired candy in center of each and shape the dough around it so you can't see candy.

Place balls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake about 15 minutes or until edges are golden. Place powdered sugar in a plastic bag. Transfer 2 or 3 cookies at a time to the bag of sugar. Gently shake until coated. Cool on rack and then shake cookies in powdered sugar again. Makes about 26.
