DILL PICKLES 
1 tsp. alum
3 qts. water
1 qt. vinegar
1 c. salt
7 qts. whole or sliced cucumbers
7 cloves garlic
7 dill heads

Mix and boil alum, water, vinegar and salt. Put cucumbers in hot quart jars. Pour boiling mixture over cucumbers. Add 1 clove of garlic and 1 dill head to each jar. Put lids on and seal tight. No further processing needed.
