GERMAN LOVE COOKIES | |
1 c. soft butter 1 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla 2 1/2 c. flour 1/2 c. chopped nuts 1/2 c. dark molasses 1 tsp. grated lemon peel 1 tsp. each cinnamon, cloves, allspice and nutmeg Mix butter, sugar, egg and vanilla thoroughly. Blend in flour. Mix in the rest of the ingredients. Cover and chill at least 2 hours. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick on well floured board. Cut into 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch rectangles. Bake on ungreased baking sheet 8 minutes at 350 degrees. While warm, brush cookies with lemon glaze. Makes 4 dozen. LEMON GLAZE: Blend: 1 tbsp. lemon juice 1 1/2 tsp. water Few drops of food coloring, if desired |
