DOUGHNUTS 
6 1/2 c. flour
9 tbsp. sugar
4 tsp. salt
4 eggs
2 c. water
4 tbsp. shortening
1/2 cake household yeast
2 tsp. vanilla

Mix ingredients together and fry in 375 degree oil until golden brown. Try making a few and test them until you get your timing down on when they are done.

GLAZE DOUGHNUTS: Add 3 to 3 1/2 tablespoons boiling water gradually to 1 cup confectioners' sugar. A little vanilla or lemon juice can be added for flavor. Mix well and dip warm doughnuts into warm glaze.

CHOCOLATE COVERED DOUGHNUTS: Prepare doughnuts. Melt 2 tablespoons butter and 2 oz. unsweetened chocolate over hot water. Blend in 1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar and 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons boiling water. Add about 1 tablespoon cream or enough to make the icing easy to spread or drip over the side of the doughnuts. Beat until smooth.
