BOSTON BROWN BREAD | |
1 1/2 c. water 1 1/2 c. raisins 2 tbsp. Spry or other shortening 1 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tbsp. molasses 1 tsp. vanilla 2 1/4 c. flour (don't sift) 1 egg 1/2 c. nuts Put water and raisins in large pan; boil for 5 minutes (cool). While still warm, add all other ingredients. Mix together well. Add nuts last. Grease cans fully to top. Half fill them. Bake until well brown in 350°F oven for 45 to 60 minutes. Cool for short time. While still warm, tip out of can on wax paper. (Use 3 or 4 No. 2 cans, vegetable or fruit.) |
