2 boxes of golden raisins 5 lbs. of flour 1 qt. milk 4 env. of yeast 6 eggs (use only 4 eggs and the yolks from the other 2, save whites to brush on bread) 2 tbsp. vanilla 1 tbsp. salt 1 c. sugar 2 sticks butter In a large pot boil the milk, add butter, salt, vanilla and cup of sugar and eggs (that have been beaten). Let cool. Important. Next, mix yeast with 1/4 teaspoon sugar in 1/4 cup warm water. Put in warm turned off oven. The mixture will turn bubbly in 1/2 hour. Make sure oven is not too warm. After yeast bubbles, add it to the milk mixture, adding flour and kneading well. Cover with wet towel and put in warm place to rise. Punch down and place in greased baking tins. This will make 5 to 6 loaves, depending on size of tins. Cover with wet dish towel and let stand until rises. Brush with butter and egg whites on top of bread. Bake 350 degrees for approximately 1 hour. |
