CHOPPED MEAT SOUP 
1 lb. lean chopped meat
1 med. onion, chopped
1 lg. can tomatoes
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/4 c. barley
1 1/2 qt. water
2 lg. potatoes, cut up
1 lg. carrot, cut up

In skillet, brown chopped meat and onion. Add the rest of the ingredients, simmer covered, over very low heat for about 2 hours. Remember to keep the heat very low, and stir from time to time.
