MY GRANDMOTHER'S WAR BREAD 
Scald 1 cup of cornmeal with 2 cups boiling water and cool. Add:

6 tbsp. syrup (any kind)
1/2 c. mashed potatoes
1/2 c. water
3 tbsp. melted shortening
1 tsp. salt
6 tsp. baking powder
1 c. rye flour

Beat hard, then bake in well-greased and floured muffin pans in hot oven.
