RICH CREAM SCONES 
2 c. sifted flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
4 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. currants or raisins
1/3 c. butter
1/2 c. cream
1 egg, well beaten
1 egg, beaten, for glaze
Sugar for glaze

Mix together dry ingredients. Cut in butter with fingers or pastry blender. Mix in cream and egg. Add currants. Pat into 1/2 inch thick circle. Cut into wedges or with cutter. Brush tops with egg and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-18 minutes. Yield: 1 dozen.
