1 1/2 c. sugar 2/3 c. shortening 1/4 c. water 12 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips 2 tsp. vanilla 4 eggs 1 1/2 c. flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 c. chopped nuts (optional) Combine and bring sugar, shortening and water just to a boil in a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat. Remove from stove. Stir in by hand the chocolate chips and vanilla until chocolate melts and is smooth; beat in eggs one at a time. Combine the flour, salt and baking soda and blend into the chocolate mixture. Add nuts if desired. Spread in greased and floured 13 x 9 metal baking pan. Bake at 325°F for 25 to 30 minutes. |
