ELLEN GOLD'S APPLE TEA RING 
3 tbsp. sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening
3/4 c. scalded milk
1 cake yeast
1 egg, well beaten
2 3/4 c. flour
Melted butter
3 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 tbsp. chopped nuts
1 c. diced apples

To scalded milk add sugar, salt and shortening. Cool to lukewarm. Soften yeast in small amount of lukewarm milk, add to milk mixture. Add egg. Sift flour once and measure. Add to yeast mixture in two portions, mixing well to make a soft dough. Knead for about 5 minutes.

Place in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise until double in bulk. Roll out into a rectangle 12x10. Brush with melted butter. Combine last four ingredients. Spread on dough. Roll up as for jelly roll. Bake at 375 for 30 minutes.
