HERBED BEER BREAD 
3 c. self-rising flour
3 tbsp. granulated sugar
1 tbsp. dried Italian herbs
12 oz. beer at room temperature
1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese
1 tbsp. shortening
3 tbsp. cornmeal
2 tbsp. soft butter

In large mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, cheese and dried herbs; mix well. Stir in beer. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a large loaf pan with the shortening and sprinkle sides and bottom with cornmeal.

Put batter into pan. Bake at 325 degrees for about 65 minutes. Brush baked loaf with softened butter (sprinkle with additional cornmeal, if desired). Remove from pan and cool on rack.
