"GRAM CAMFIELDS SCOTCH COOKIES" 
1/2 c. shortening or 1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/4 c. buttermilk or sour milk (milk/vinegar)
1/2 c. sorghum
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and buttermilk; set aside. Sift together dry ingredients and set aside. Boil sorghum and soda on medium heat, stirring constantly until bubbly. Add to shortening mixture and stir and add all to dry ingredients. Stir all together, chill at least for 1 hour. Roll out dough and cut with cookie cutter (I use gingerbread man or round cutters) and bake at 350 degrees 8 to 10 minutes.
