1 c. shortening (1/2 butter)
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream shortening and sugars together; add egg and vanilla. Add dry ingredients; mix in nuts. Form dough into balls and roll in fine sugar. Put on cookie sheet and press flat with a glass. Bake at 350 to 375 degrees for 10 minutes.
