MIDNIGHT TORTE | |
1 (6 oz.) pkg. (1 c.) Nestle's Toll House semi-sweet chocolate morsels 1 1/4 c. water, divided 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking soda 3/4 tsp. salt 1 1/2 c. sugar 3/4 c. (1 1/2 sticks) butter, softened 1 tsp. vanilla extract 3 eggs Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease and flour two 9 x 1/2 inch round baking pans. Melt semi-sweet chocolate morsels with 1/4 cup water, stirring until smooth; set aside. In small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt; set aside. In large mixer bowl, beat sugar, butter and vanilla extract until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in chocolate mixture. Gradually blend in flour mixture alternately with remaining one cup water. Pour into prepared pans. Bake 30 to 35 minutes until wooden toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans and cool completely. Split layers in half horizontally. FILLING: 1/4 c. Nestle's cocoa 1/4 c. sugar 2 c. heavy or whipping cream In small mixer bowl, stir cocoa and sugar until smooth. Add heavy cream. Beat at medium speed until soft peaks form. Place one split cake layer on serving plate; spread with 1/3 of filling. Repeat with remaining layers and Filling. GLAZE: 6 tbsp. (3/4 stick butter) 1/3 c. corn syrup 2 tbsp. water 1 (12 oz.) pkg. (2 c.) Nestle's Toll House semi-sweet chocolate morsels In 2 quart saucepan, combine butter, corn syrup and water. HEAT TO BOILING over low heat, stirring constantly; remove from heat. Stir in semi-sweet chocolate morsels until smooth. Cool to room temperature. Spread over top and side of cake. Refrigerate cake a few minutes to set glaze. Store in refrigerator. Makes 10 to 12 servings. |
