2 c. sugar
3 heaping c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. allspice
2 tsp. cinnamon
4 eggs
3/4 c. butter
1 pt. applesauce (thick homemade best)
1/2 c. chocolate syrup
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift together first 7 ingredients. Mix eggs, butter, applesauce, chocolate syrup, and vanilla and beat until well blended. Add dry ingredients and beat well. Pour into well-greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. You may add black walnuts and raisins, if desired.
