125 YEAR OLD BLACK WALNUT POUND CAKE | |
2 sticks butter, softened 1/2 c. Crisco 3 c. sugar 5 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring 1/2 tsp. black walnut flavoring 3 c. plain flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1 c. milk (half and half) 1 c. chopped black walnuts Cream butter and Crisco, add sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well. Add flavorings and beat well. Mix 1/4 cup of flour with nuts. Sift remaining flour with baking powder and add alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour. Fold in floured nuts. Do not beat. Bake in greased and floured tube cake pan for 1 hour and 25 minutes in 325 degree oven. ICING (optional) : 1 stick butter, softened 1 box powdered sugar 3-4 tbsp. cream 1/2 tsp. black walnut flavoring 1 c. chopped black walnuts Beat together and spread on cooled cake. |
