BROWN SUGAR COOKIES 
2 c. light brown sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
If Crisco is used add 1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. coconut or pecans, if desired

Chill in refrigerator several hours. Drop by spoonful on greased cookie sheet. Can cover dough well and refrigerate for several days before baking. Bake 10 to 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
