MARTHA'S POUND CAKE 
3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
2 2/3 c. sugar
1 lb. butter
8 eggs
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. lemon extract
1/2 c. coffee cream or canned milk

Cream the sugar and butter. Separate eggs and beat whites. Add cream of tartar to egg whites. Add yolks, two at a time, mixing after each addition. Add flour and milk alternately, mixing after each addition. Add flavoring, mixing in and add egg whites last, folding in slowly. Bake 1 hour and 30 minutes at 325 degrees.

Three sticks of butter and 1/2 cup of Crisco may be used instead of 1 pound of butter.
