OATMEAL, RAISIN, NUT COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 c. raisins
Pinch salt
1 c. minute oatmeal
1 c. chopped walnuts
2 c. flour (sifted)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda

Boil raisins covered in water for 5 minutes. Drain off juice into separate bowl and let raisins and juice cool.

Blend shortening, sugar, flour, salt and cinnamon with pastry blender. Add raisins, oatmeal, nuts and eggs. Blend.

Measure 5 tbsp. raisin juice into bowl. Add baking soda to juice and add to mixture. Drop by teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet. Bake 8-12 minutes at 350 degrees until just golden.
