MARINATED CUCUMBERS 
4 cucumbers
1 sweet Spanish onion (or red), sliced
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. vinegar
1/2 c. oil
Celery seed

Pare cucumbers. Score lengthwise with tines of fork, all around cucumber. Slice thinly. Put in salted ice water. Add onion. Let stand 1 to 2 hours. Cook sugar over low heat until sugar dissolves. Cool. Add vinegar, oil, and celery seed to taste to cooled sugar syrup and mix well. Drain and rinse cucumber and onion slices. Pour oil and vinegar over them to cover.
