OLD FASHIONED TEA CAKES 
2 c. flour
2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening or butter
3/8 c. milk or water
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar. Add beaten egg. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Add vanilla last. Toss on floured board and roll thin. Cut with cookie cutter. Sprinkle with sugar.
