MILE HIGH BISCUITS 
3 c. flour
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
2 1/2 tbsp. sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. butter, softened
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 c. milk

Sift dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until mix resembles coarse meal. Beat egg lightly and add to milk. Add liquid to dry ingredients and mix with fork until dough holds together. Turn onto floured board and knead lightly. Roll and cut into thick biscuits. Bake at 450 degrees for 12 minutes. Great with stews, chowders or as shortcake!
