OLD FASHIONED WHOLE WHEAT BREAD
2 pkgs. dry yeast
1/2 c. warm water
1 3/4 c. milk
1 tbsp. salt
1/4 c. molasses
2 tbsp. shortening
1/4 c. sugar
5-6 c. whole wheat flour

Dissolve yeast in water; heat milk, sugar, molasses, shortening and salt just until warm. Pour into large bowl. Beat about 2 cups flour into mixture. Stir in yeast. Slowly add enough flour to make a soft dough. Turn out on lightly floured surface; knead 8 to 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Turn into a lightly greased bowl to grease top. Cover, let rise about 1 hour, or until Double. Punch down, divide dough in half, place in greased loaf pans. Cover, let rise 60 minutes or until double.

Bake in preheated 400 degree oven for 30 minutes. If top browns too quickly, cover with foil loosely. Makes 2 loaves. 99 calories, 3 g. protein, 19 g. carbohydrates, 2 g. fat and 2 mg. cholesterol.
