“DATE LOAF” IS IN:

DATE LOAF 
2 cups sugar
1 cup milk
1 tbsp. butter
pinch of salt
1 cup dates, finely chopped
1 cup nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook sugar, milk, butter and salt to soft ball stage (235°F on candy thermometer), stirring frequently.

Add dates, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; cool slightly.

Beat until it begins to thicken. Add nuts and vanilla; beat until creamy and stiff. Pour into a strip on dampened cloth; form into roll.

May be wrapped in aluminum foil and refrigerated. Slice as needed.

Cooks Note: Use of a candy thermometer is recommended.

Makes 24 to 36 servings.
