SOFT HERMIT COOKIES 
2 c. raisins
1 c. water
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 3/4 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Boil water and raisins for 3 minutes. Cool, do not drain. Cream shortening with sugar. Beat in eggs. Stir in raisin mixture and vanilla. Add flour mixture. Stir in nuts. Drop by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheet. Bake in preheated oven 10-12 minutes.
