OLD TIME BEEF STEW | |
2 lb. chuck, cubed 2 tbsp. fat 4 c. boiling water 1 tbsp. lemon juice 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 1/2 tsp. garlic powder 1 med. onion, sliced or 1/2 tsp. onion powder 1 or 2 bay leaves 1 tbsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper Carrots Potatoes - about 4 Optional - 1/2 tsp. paprika, 1 tsp. sugar Flour meat first. Brown meat on all sides in hot fat. Add water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, sliced onion, bay leaves and seasonings. Cover, simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaves and garlic. Add carrots and potatoes (add almost any vegetable you would like). Cover, simmer for 30 minutes, or until vegetables are done. Remove meat and vegetables - thicken liquid for gravy. Serves 6-8. |
