BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
1 gallon cucumbers
5 c. sugar
5 c. vinegar
2 tsp. mustard seed
2 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. tumeric
1 tsp. cloves

Stand cucumbers in 1/2 or 1 cup salt. Cover with ice. Let stand 3 hours. Drain off all salt water. Add vinegar, sugar, and spices. Heat to boiling point; put in jars and seal. Onions may be added.
