CHERRY OATMEAL COOKIES 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening, butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. sifted all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 (8 oz.) jar red maraschino cherries, drained and chopped
1/2 c. coconut, substitute corn flakes
2 c. quick rolled oats
1 tsp. vanilla
1 (8 oz.) red maraschino cherries, drained and cut in half for top

Combine shortening, butter and sugars. Beat until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Sift flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Gradually add cherries, coconut, oats, and dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Chill 1 hour.

Drop by tablespoonfuls onto ungreased sheets. Place a piece of cherry on top of each cookie. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. After 1 minute, remove cookies to rack and cool.
