LAURA LINDSAY ORANGE SLICE CAKE 
1 c. butter
4 eggs
2 c. sugar
1 lb. orange slice candy, chopped
1 c. coconut
1 tbsp. orange juice
1/2 c. buttermilk
3 1/2 c. plain flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 lb. dates
2 c. chopped nuts

Mix one cup flour with chopped nuts, dates, orange slices and coconut. Set aside.

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Add alternating milk and remaining 2 1/2 cups flour and soda. Add orange juice. Fold in flour and nuts, orange slices, date and coconut mixture. Pour into greased tube pan. Bake at 275 degrees for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

ICING:

1/2 c. orange juice
1/2 c. powdered sugar

Mix together and bring to a boil.

Punch holes into cake with long fork. Pour over hot cake. Cool in pan overnight. Turn out the next day.
