CHOCOLATE TWIN DOTS 
1/2 c. dates, cut fine
1/4 c. water
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi sweet chocolate pieces
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, unbeaten
1 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. quick cook oatmeal
1 c. currants or raisins
1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
1/2 c. finely chopped nuts

Simmer dates in water until soft. Cool. Melt 2/3 cup chocolate pieces over hot water. Sift together flour, salt and soda. Blend shortening and sugar, add eggs and vanilla, melted chocolate and beat. Blend in dry ingredients, mixing well. Stir in oatmeal, coconut and softened dates. Chill. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls into confectioners' sugar. Coat with sugar and mold into balls. Dip tops into nuts. Place on greased sheets, nuts side up. Press two chocolate pieces close together on top of each. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
