SHEEPHERDER'S BREAD 
3 c. very hot tap water
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
2 1/2 tsp. salt
2 pkg. yeast
About 9 1/2 c. flour
Salad oil

In a bowl combine hot water, butter, sugar, and salt. Stir until butter melts. Cool until warm. Add yeast. Stir in and cover. Set in a warm place for 15 minutes. Add 5 cups flour and beat well. Stir in enough of remaining flour to make a thick dough. Knead for 10 minutes. Place dough in a greased bowl and let rise. Punch down. Knead until smooth.

Cut a circle of foil to cover the bottom of a Dutch oven. Grease the Dutch oven and the underside of the lid. Place dough in pan and let rise until the lid is 1/2 inch above the pan.

Bake covered at 375 degrees for 12 minutes. Remove the lid and bake 30-35 minutes.
