CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
2/3 c. soft shortening (part butter)
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
6 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate bits
1/2 c. nuts

Mix thoroughly first column of ingredients. Stir together flour, soda and salt. Stir in. Stir in chocolate bits and nuts. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees until delicately browned. Cookies should still be soft. Cool slightly before removing from baking sheet. Makes about 4-5 dozen 2 inch cookies.
