CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
2/3 c. soft shortening, part butter
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sifted Golden Medal flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. cut up nuts
6 oz. pkg. semi sweet chocolate pieces, about 1 1/3 cups

Mix thoroughly first five ingredients. Sift together and stir in flour, soda and salt. Stir in nuts and chocolate. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake on 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes until delicately browned, cookies should just be soft. Cool slightly before removing from baking sheet. Makes 4 to 5 dozen 2 inch cookies.

For a softer, more rounded cookie, use 1 3/4 cups sifted flour.
