CANDY CANE COOKIES 
1 c. soft shortening
1 c. sifted confectioner's sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. almond flavoring
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. red food coloring

Mix well shortening, sugar, egg and flavorings. Add flour and salt to mixture. Divide dough in two even portions. Color 1 portion with red food coloring. Roll one teaspoon of each color dough or slightly floured board into strips about four inches long. Place the two strips side by side and roll together. Twist and form a candy cane. Cook for 11 to 12 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 26 to 28 cookies.
