BUTTER REFRIGERATOR COOKIES 
1 c. (2 sticks) butter
1 1/2 c. sifted confectioners' sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt (optional)

Cream butter. Add sugar gradually and cream until fluffy. Add unbeaten egg and vanilla. Beat well. Sift together dry ingredients. Blend into creamed mixture. Divide dough and chill. Roll out dough to 1/8 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters. Bake 6 minutes at 400 degrees.

You may also divide dough in rolls and chill, then slice to 1/8 inch thick. Bake the same as above.
