DATE NUT BALLS 
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 c. chopped dates
1 egg
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. Rice Krispies

Mix first 5 ingredients and cook slowly until thick (about 10 minutes). Remove from heat, add vanilla and Rice Krispies, mix well and let cool. When still a little warm, grease hands with shortening and roll into balls, then roll in coconut.
