LAYERED CREAM CHEESE BROWNIES 
FILLING:

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1/3 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla

BROWNIE BATTER:

2 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. each baking powder, salt
1/2 c. chocolate chips

For filling, beat cream cheese until smooth. Beat in sugar, egg and vanilla; set aside. For batter, heat chocolate and butter until melted; let cool. Beat sugar and eggs until blended and stir into chocolate. Combine dry ingredients and stir into chocolate.

Pour 1/2 of batter into a greased 8-inch square pan. Spread cream cheese on top. Spread remaining batter over cheese. Sprinkle with chips. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes. Cool and cut into squares. Yield 16.
