FAVORITE LOAF BREAD | |
1/2 c. lukewarm water 1/2 c. sugar + 1 tsp. 2 pkgs. dry yeast 2 c. scalded milk 1/2 c. butter or shortening 1 tbsp. salt 7 c. flour Dissolve yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in lukewarm water. Combine 1/2 cup sugar, shortening and milk. Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast mixture; stir. Add salt and enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead until dough becomes smooth and satiny. Cover and let rise until double in bulk. Punch down; divide dough into 2 parts. Shape into loaves and place in 2 greased loaf pans. Grease tops. Let rise until doubled in bulk. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes. Remove from pans; cool. |
