NO CHOLESTEROL NUT DELIGHTS | |
2 lb. flour (King Arthur) Dash of salt 1 tbsp. mahlaab 1 qt. pre-prepared syrup (uttir) 3/4 c. vegetable oil 1/2 c. yansoon (anise seed) 2 pkg. dry yeast Approximately 2 c. water 1 lb. nuts (pecans or walnuts) Combine dry ingredients. Add oil and rub into flour mixture evenly. Dissolve yeast into 1 cup of the water with a dash of sugar. Mix, gradually adding the rest of the water until dough is smooth and silky. Cover and let rise until dough has tripled in bulk. Ball out into 1 1/2 inch balls, cover with plastic. Let rest a few minutes. Press each ball into an oblong as thin as possible, line one edge with nuts and roll like a jelly roll. Place on UNGREASED baking sheet at 275 degrees for about 25 minutes until golden and crisp. Remove and drop into syrup for about 5 minutes. Turn them over a few times in the bowl. Yield: about 3 dozen. |
