SWEET AND SOUR PORK (OR BEEF) | |
3 lbs. pork (or beef), cut into 2 inch strips 2 (#2) cans pineapple chunks, drained (save juice) 1/2 c. brown sugar 4 tbsp. cornstarch 1/2 c. vinegar 2 tbsp. soy sauce or more if desired 1 tsp. salt; optional 1 1/2 c. green and red pepper strips 1/2 c. thinly sliced onion 1 can sliced water chestnuts; optional 1 can mushrooms; optional Tomato pieces Brown meat; add small amount of water and simmer until tender. Mix brown sugar, cornstarch and salt. Add vinegar, pineapple juice and soy sauce to sugar mixture. Pour over tender cooked meat and let stand. About 10 minutes before serving, add peppers, onions, etc. and simmer. About 5 minutes before serving, add pieces of tomato. Serve with rice and/or chow mein noodles. Serves 10-12. |
