TEEN MA OUD (FIG PRESERVES) 
2 l. dried figs
1 l. sugar
1/2 tbsp. anise seed
1 c. chopped walnuts
1/2 tbsp. Mistki

Pound Mistki (Arabic gum) between 2 pieces of waxed paper. Cut figs into small pieces. Place figs in kettle adding water just enough to cover and steam slowly until soft. Add sugar and the anise and Mistki, cook uncovered until almost dry. Add walnut meats and cool. Put in sterilized jars and seal.
