BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES | |
1 (5 lb.) bag of sugar 2 c. white vinegar 1 gal. jar of hamburger dills Drain pickles for 10 minutes (throw away the juice). Do not wash pickles or the jar. Mix in a large bowl the sugar and the vinegar for 5 minutes. Mix real well. Cover the bottom of the jar that the pickles came in with a layer of pickles. Pour over pickles 1 cup of sugar-vinegar mixture. Put in more pickles. Pour over pickles 1 cup of sugar and vinegar mixture. Continue this process until all pickles and sugar vinegar are gone. Put top on jar and turn the jar over and over, roll on a towel to mix this well over the pickles for about 10 minutes. Place pickles up side down for 6-8 hours. Turn them over for 6-8 more hours, let stand. Give pickles one more shake to make sure they are mixed well. To me they are mixed well. To me they are better if you do not keep them in the refrigerator. |
