RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. Crisco
2 eggs
1 oz. water
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 oz. red food coloring
2 tbsp. cocoa
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. vinegar

Cut wax paper to fit 3 (9") pans. Combine all ingredients and mix well. Pour into paper lined pans and bake 30 to 35 minutes in a 350 degree oven.

NOTE: Use one of the following frostings.

FROSTING:

1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. Crisco
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook milk and flour until thick; remove from heat and beat sugar into flour mixture; add Crisco and butter and beat until fluffy; add vanilla and beat until very fluffy.

CREAM CHEESE FROSTING:

8 oz. cream cheese
1 lb. powdered sugar
2/3 c. butter
Few tbsp. milk

Beat cheese, butter and sugar until fluffy. Add milk if necessary to achieve desired consistency.
