2 c. shortening
1 to 2 tbsp. vanilla
Milk
2 lbs. powdered sugar
Pinch of salt
Paste food coloring

Whip shortening until soft and creamy. Add sugar, salt and flavor. Add 3 tablespoons milk. Mix slowly until combined. Add more milk 1 tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached. Be sure to scrape sides of bowl. Whip frosting until light and fluffy. Add coloring, mix by hand until completely blended.
