CHOCOLATE TORTE 
1 pkg. Swiss chocolate cake mix
2 (4 oz.) pkgs. German sweet chocolate
3/4 c. butter, softened
8 oz. Cool Whip, thawed
1/2 c. slivered almonds, toasted and chopped

Prepare cake mix as directed except use milk and add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Bake in 2 prepared 9 inch round layer pans. Cool. Split layers horizontally. Melt 1 1/2 packages chocolate. Cool. Beat in butter and almonds. Make chocolate shavings from remaining chocolate. Spread 1 layer with 1/2 the chocolate mixture. Top with 2nd layer and spread with 1/2 Cool Whip. Repeat with 3rd and 4th remaining layers; garnish with shavings. Chill at least 1 hour. This makes a very attractive birthday cake for the chocolate lovers.
