1 c. sugar
1 stick butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. vanilla or preferred flavoring

Cream first 3 ingredients. Beat in egg. Gradually add in sifted dry ingredients. And let's not forget the vanilla! Make into a roll and refrigerate a few hours. Slice and bake in a 350 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes. After they cool a bit, it's nice to give them a light icing.
