FLAVORFUL PEAR BREAD | |
1 (1 lb.) can Bartlett Pear Halves 2 c. sifted flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/3 c. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. grated lemon peel 2/3 c. pear syrup 1 egg 2 tbsp. lemon juice 2 tbsp. butter, melted Desired flavoring Drain pears reserving syrup. Slice 1 pear half in lengthwise slices to garnish top of loaf. Chop remaining pears fine. Sift flour, soda, baking powder, salt and sugar. Add lemon peel and nuts. Combine pear syrup, egg, lemon juice, butter and flavoring. Pour over dry ingredients; stir just until blended. Pour into greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pan. Garnish with reserved pear slices. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes. Remove from pan and cool. For best flavor, store in airtight container overnight. Flavorings: 1/2 teaspoon ginger, nutmeg, cloves or cardamom, 1/4 teaspoon anise seed or 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese. |
