GRANDMA MC GRATH'S APPLE PICKLES 
8 lbs. pared crab apples
4 lbs. sugar (9 c.)
1 qt. vinegar
1 oz. stick cinnamon
1/2 oz. cloves

Boil sugar, vinegar and spices together for a short time before adding the apples. When apples are tender, put into jar and pour over them the syrup boiled down thick.
